" Moberly's Outfitting" Hunt Black Bear
(All Color Phases) and Moose. Hunt with bow or gun.
Campsite is located 1 hour +- by boat, (25 miles) from Turnor Lake..
Due NORTH!
This area is a NEW area for hunting Black Bear in
2006. Each area is about 25 miles square, roughly 355 square miles of rugged and natural
hunting area.
Most stands are accessible only by boat, assuring you of a truly isolated,
wilderness hunt.
Success? Almost certain!!
Lotsa bears in this area.. Never bear hunted before spring 2006.
Bob Brewer, Pink Atkins and I (Ramon Bell) will be the first modern hunters to ever hunt here!
Bears are plentiful.. BIG.. and Eric Moberly KNOWS
how to set up stand locations for Bow or Gun hunters. And, he now has the
"perfect" recipe for baits that bears will "hit" and come back
for more, and more, and more! Bob, Pink and I will make this first trip in spring 2006,
for this very purpose..to assure that this guide knows how to treat his hunters...
in camp, and on the stand. Pre-baited stand/bait locations are guaranteed! You will
see bears and have the opportunity to be "selective." We can't
guarantee you'll actually kill a bear.. You may choose NOT to
shoot a bear, for whatever reason! We encourage all hunters to "try" to
harvest mature, adult males (boars.) Sows with cubs, and cubs, may NOT
be taken.
Hunt with "Moberly's

So, in order to guarantee your "slot" to hunt the particular week you want, a Ten
Percent (10%) deposit of the price of the hunt will hold your hunting time
until January 31 prior to the hunt, at that time 40% of the hunt is due and must be
received by Old South Adventures within 10 days, or by
February 10th to guarantee the slot will be held for
you. The remaining 50% is due (Cash in US Funds) upon arrival at the guides
home in Turnor Lake, Saskatchewan.
Taxi Service available:
Eric Moberly offers a "Taxi" service for individuals or groups of
hunters at a special negotiated price. If interested, ask us about it!
Arrival / Departure:
All hunters come into Turnor Lake on Sunday by
2 pm,
meet the guide and go to the camp. Hunters will be back to Turnor Lake by following
Sunday by 11 am, or before. Hunting begins on Monday and runs thru Saturday. (*The
last hunting session is Saturday morning up until about 5 pm, if necessary! This
will allow for time to track, retrieve and field dress bear before departure from camp on
Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.) Most hunting sessions are in the evening, but
morning hunts can be arranged if desired, or IF it is determined that a bear is
hitting the bait in the morning.
Every effort will be made to show hunters all baits on Sunday
p.m. or Monday a.m., before the first hunt on Monday evening. Then,
hunters must decide among themselves which baits they wish to hunt on Monday and
subsequent days. Stands will be baited once daily from then on, when the
hunters get on their stands. Guides will continue to bait unoccupied stands and make
note of what has been hitting them for hunters information.
Plan your plane/car travel accordingly. Usually best to fly
into Saskatoon on Saturday and stay overnight in a motel. Drive to Turnor Lake
Sunday morning and meet guide about 2 pm. (It's a 7 hour drive.)
Then, drive back to Saskatoon the following Sunday and stay overnight and fly out Monday
morning. Book your flights EARLY.. as they tend to book up quickly this time of year.
2008 Hunt Dates:
Week #1: May 25 - June 1 - (2 slots left)
Week#2: CLOSED for 2008
Week #3: CLOSED for 2008
NOTE: Absolutely NO
hunters will be allowed to "hunt" on any days prior to, or other
than, the dates of scheduled hunts listed above by "Moberly's
Outfitting!" Hunters who may be looking for that extra "edge"
by getting into their choice of stands before other hunters will NOT
be allowed to do so. All stands will be assigned on the first day
of each weeks hunt using a simple "draw" or "lottery" method of
"available active" stands. They may then move to "open"
(available) stands or "trade" stands with other hunters for the remainder of the
hunt.
"Wounded Bear" Policy:
We stress that hunter's be informed and educated on what type "shot" to look
for, and that they be completely familiar, comfortable and confident in their weapon of
choice. Good shots "WILL" present themselves if the hunter simply
applies a moderate ammount of patience.
"Moberly's Outfitting" will have the following policy in place beginning
in 2007 pertaining to "wounded bears." If a hunter wounds a bear and
there is a good blood trail, every effort will be made to
track and locate the bear before abandoning the search and continuing the hunt.
Every effort will be made to successfully track and recover the bear by the guide, the
hunter and others in the hunting party that wish to participate. If the bear
is not located after this effort, the hunter may return to a stand and hunt the next
day. It is the ethical thing to do to make every
possible effort to recover the bear. A "2 shot limit"
will apply beginning in 2007. This means 2 shots where bears are hit/wounded and
there's a blood trail. (If this occurs, the guide and hunter will
discuss what course of action would be most appropriate for the remainder of the hunt
This could include an extra charge to continue the hunt.)
Extenuating (special) circumstances will be considered. Completely
"Missed" shots and hits with NO blood trail do not count on the "2
shot" limit. If video shows / indicates a non-lethal hit, this will be
considered by the guide also. We encourage all hunters to plan to video
their shots for this reason as well as having video memorabilia of their hunt.
Suspended Hunts:
*Any hunter who shoots a bear and fails to tell the guide so he can
follow-up with a diligent search for the bear will be suspended from hunting for the
remainder of the hunt. All shots at bears shall be reported
to the guide so it can be positively determined that the bear was not hit or possibly
mortally wounded. Failure to report attempted shots (with bow or gun) to the guide
can also result in suspension of hunting for the remainder of the hunt.
"Sow" Policy:
Taking of Sows (females) with young cubs, and cubs,
is prohibited! The taking of smaller bears that may be sows is also
discouraged. Steven and Alfred will talk to hunters about what to look for to avoid
shooting sows. They know that it can and will happen.
But, to protect the breeding stock of their bear population, they
encourage the harvesting of mature boars (males) only.
NO EXTRA / HIDDEN FEES:
There will be NO extra fee or charge for shooting and
"wounding" a bear or for "missed shots." No extra
"gas" fees, etc. (*See "Wounded Bear"... "2-shot"
limit policy above!)
Eric Moberly will only accommodate
ONLY five hunters
for the entire 2008 spring bear season. He can take up to five
hunters in one week.
Fishing for Northern Pike is excellent too, and you'll do plenty of
this after you bag your trophy Black Bear. Some Walleye are caught
also. Hunters will also have many
opportunities to fish in the morning near camp and on scouting/baiting trips to stand
locations. Northern Pike are ferociously hungry this time of year and strikes
are frequent and often reach "frenzy" stages. They're good eatin'
too, Trevor and Paul knows how to cook'em as well as catch'em.
