Maine is famous for it's black bear and moose hunting. Whitetail deer are plentiful
and BIG, too! Interested in a hunt in northern Maine?
Bear Hunting begins on or about the first of September and is
open four weeks. You will hunt from tree stands over bait. Transportaion to
and from all stands is provided. Stands are set up for rifle, bow or muzzleloader.
We have had over 50% success for over 30 years, with excellent results for
all three types of weapons.
Deer Hunting... miles of marked trails, old logging roads,
hardwood ridges, mixed growth, and some old burned area provide prime hunting.
There are no other camps for miles in any direction and the area is
remarkably void of hunters other than the ones from our camp. In November, you
can hunt deer and bear, with a good chance at a 200 lb. plus buck. You can also take
small game on the same license. Any deer permit deadline is Ausust 17th.
Bowlin Camps is in zone 10. Write or phone for application.
Moose Hunting: One week in October.. hunters are drawn by
lottery. Bowlin Camps is in zone 10. Zone 5 is only 8 miles from camp.
We have all necessary equipment to help you get your moose out and have had 100% success
with all bulls since the beginning of the modern moose hunting season in 1980.
Permit applications are available from Bowlin Camps after January 1. The
application must be received by the Dept. of IF & W by April 30.
Ruffed Grouse "Partridge" hunting.. There are miles
of old roads and wood trails with varied cover for grouse. Hardwood ridges,
thick aldered wood roads, and open cuttings. Grouse are plentiful and hold well.
Fishing: The river, several streams, lakes and ponds, some
within walking distance of camp, offer brook trout, land-locked salmon and smallmouth
bass. Canoes are available for the river and a boat and motor are available at
Bowlin Pond. Madagamon Lake, 12 miles in length, offers a variety of fishing and is
easily accessible from camp.
Family Activities: There are numerous marked trails for
hiking and wilderness appreciation. Moose, deer, many different species of
birds and small animals are often seen on the trails. Special scenery of Mt. Katahdin,
Wassataquoik Valley & Katahdin Lake. Baxter State Park is only a few
miles from camp by vehicle. Canoe trips are available from camp for a distance of 16
miles. Other places of interest and historical value are closeby for the sightseer's
enjoyment.
