A BIT ABOUT DENALI HUNTS
The word bowhunting implies challenge. For most of us, this is why we
do it! Add the word Alaska and the challenge is multiplied. For some, the challenge
may seem too great. For others, it's exciting - the type of excitement we live
for.
Bowhunting in Alaska is special. To make sure that your hunt in Alaska is filled
with the type of excitement you thrive on, you need to be sure that the guide you choose
knows and is capable of providing everything you as a bowhunter need for an enjoyable and
successful trip to Alaska.
DENALI HUNTS was established in 1986 by
myself, Stan Parkerson. In the beginning as an accomplished bush air taxi I offered drop
camps for bowhunters. Since then I have become a registered guide. However, one thing has
not changed: we still cater to bowhunters and we still do a limited number of drop camps.
There are many guides in Alaska, most of which are very qualified at what they do.
Many refuse to take bowhunters, others will just to fill openings.
Some charge extra if you bowhunt and most recommend you bring your rifle,
simply because they lack the patience and confidence to deal with bowhunters! There
are a few guides in Alaska that do seek bowhunters and do offer quality hunts, but unless
you book with a bowhunting only guide service, you may end up sharing your camp with gun
hunters. To the best of my knowledge DENALI
HUNTS is the only exclusively bowhunting guide service in
Alaska!
BOWHUNTERS GUIDING BOWHUNTERS
At DENALI HUNTS all of our guides are experienced bowhunters with polished wilderness skills.
Our guides are made up of Pope & Young measurers, volunteer bowhunter education
instructors, most have numerous record book entries and are experienced at field judging
trophies. We're all long time Alaskans and have bowhunted in excess of 15 years. We are
members of many hunting organizations including the Pope & Young Club and the National
Rifle Association (I'm a life member). We've all been active in bowhunting legislation,
including support for the International Bowhunter Education Program. We all love to
bowhunt and several of us have harvested over 50 big game animals with bow and arrow. I've
taken 13 different species and my largest archery trophy is an eight-foot Black bear that
scored 22 Boone & Crockett points. It's the 2nd largest Black bear ever taken in
Alaska. The list could go on, but the idea is that we are all accomplished bowhunting
guides. I strongly believe that the combined experience of our guides along with the top
trophy areas we hunt makes DENALI HUNTS the best guide service
available for the serious bowhunter.
ALL SPECIES
DENALI HUNTS
is licensed to hunt all species of Alaskan game. Currently we are not hunting areas that
have populations of Dall sheep, Mountain goats, Sitka-blacktail deer or coastal Brown
bears. However, we are always looking to expand our areas and may have since this
information was published. If you're interested in hunting one of these species, give us a
call. We may be able to help or recommend another guide.
NOTE: Wolf tags are available for $30 each..
no limit!
BOOKING YOUR HUNT
Once all your questions have been answered and you've decided that DENALI HUNTS is the right
choice for your hunt in Alaska, just call or e-mail Old
South Adventures to request a hunt contract. The hunt contract
will list the specifics of your hunt, spelled out in black and white so there are no
misunderstandings. You should do this as soon as you're sure that you want to book a
hunt, so that you get the best dates possible, many of the popular hunts are booked two
years in advance. After reviewing the contract, sign it and return one copy to
DENALI HUNTS
along with your deposit. Then, your hunt dates are reserved. The deposit will
be 30% to 50% of the price of the hunt, depending on the hunt dates. The remaining
balance is due at the beginning of the hunt. Deposits are non-refundable, but can be
applied towards later hunt dates or transferred to another hunter. In the event we
are unable to provide the services, all deposits will be refunded.
MONSTER MOOSE

Unofficial B&C/P&Y Score: 228 +- (Alaska-Yukon Moose)
Moose is our specialty, and BOWHUNTING for them is the only way we do it!
DENALI HUNTS also conducts hunts for Black Bear, Caribou, Sheep, Grizzly and Wolf.

At DENALI
HUNTS we live to hunt monster trophy moose.
You can imagine the rush of a 1,700 pound rut crazed bull responding to
your call: he closes the distance laying over the willows and up-rooting trees in his way.
You can hear his low, deep grunts then you see a flash of white. The flash turns
into a billboard nearly six feet wide, sprouting 20 or more points. He saunters in,
swaying his massive rack from side to side in a display of dominance. Before you know it
the bull is so close you can smell him, look into his eyes, see the steam bellowing from
his flaring nostrils and the drool dripping from his mouth..... If this don't get your
mojo running you need a pacemaker! We aren't saying that every time a bull responds to a
call it's like this, but many times it is.
We consider a big bull one that qualifies for Boone and Crockett. We hunt Alaska's top
producing trophy areas, game management units 23 and 24. In these units, as in most
units, non-resident hunters are required to harvest bulls with a 50 inch antler spread or
greater. At DENALI HUNTS our goal is to only harvest bulls that are 60 inches or better. In recent years
this region has produced several bulls in the 230 to 255 range. In the fall of 2000
our hunters took six bulls that averaged our 62 inches and a average score of 211 P&Y
points. I strongly believe that a new all time world record will be taken in this area and
I want it to be taken by a bowhunter!
Moose season runs from September 5th to 25th. Because the season is so short we only book
six guided moose hunts per season. Book early to assure your hunt dates. The cost for a
ten day fully guided moose hunt is: $8,500.00 for one hunter with one guide, or $7,500.00
each for two
hunters with one guide, plus a $2,000.00 trophy fee on any moose or $3,000.00 for bulls
scoring over 224 Boone & Crocket points.
